Invitation to a press conference regarding serious war crimes and terrorist crimes in Syria

On Tuesday 27 May the prosecutors plan to indict a 32-year-old man for serious war crimes and terrorist crimes in Syria. The offence was allegedly committed during the period of 24 December 2014–3 February 2015. The media is invited to a press conference regarding the prosecution.

On 24 December 2014 a fighter aircraft belonging to the Royal Jordanian Air Force was shot down in Syria. The pilot was captured by the Islamic State (IS) the same day near Raqqa, Syria.

The 32-year-old man, a Swedish citizen, is suspected of having executed the pilot, together with other perpetrators belonging to IS. The investigation has shown that the man, armed and masked, together with others forced the pilot into a metal cage. The cage was subsequently set on fire by one of the co-perpetrators, and the pilot died as a consequence of the fire.
